The village of Obterre is located in an extensive region of open countryside, with quiet roads and small villages in all directions. You are recommended the French Serie Bleue no. 1925 SB map for the area Preuilly-sur-Claise, Le Grand Pressigny, which will help you plan walks and cycle-rides in the vicinity.

Parc Natural Régional de la Brenne

The village of Obterre is in the Brenne National Park, a landscape of lakes and pools, marshland and woods. Created when medieval monks dug out fish-ponds, it is now rich in wildlife. With public access to bird watching hides and nature trails you can get up close to the wildlife on our doorstep. The link below has more information.

Azay-Le-Ferron (10mins)

The village of Azay-Le-Ferron is celebrated for its magnificent château and gardens, you can hire bicycles to explore its parklands.

Haute-Touche Zoo (10 mins)

This ethical 500-hectare zoo is dedicated to protecting endangered animals. With regular events plus bikes and buggies for hire, this is a true family destination.

Chatillon-sur-Indre (15 mins)

A medieval town based round a 12th century donjon (fortified tower), it’s close to family entertainments such as swimming pool, go-kart track and kayaking on the River Indre.

Loches (20mins)

This medieval town features ancient buildings and narrow streets, independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Regular markets bring in fresh produce, flowers and crafts from the countryside.

Musée de la Préhistoire - Grand-Pressigny (20 Mins)

This museum is dedicated to the Neolithic Era and to understand how during the third millennium BC, southern Touraine possessed one of the largest flint sharpening workshops in Western Europe. It explores the activity, the economic, cultural and social reality of the era.
The museum is extensive and has been classified as an ‘historic monument’ for its collections. Accessible for all with interactive workshops and a reconstruction of an encampment of prehistoric Ice Age hunters with life-size reproductions of emblematic animals dating back to that long-gone era, any age can immerse themselves in the prehistoric past.

La Roche-Posay (25 mins)

On the River Creuse and with medieval fortifications, this elegant spa town still offers treatments, and even has its own celebrated brand of skincare products.

Chemillé sur Indrois (35 mins)

This river lake has a man made beach (free access). A riverside brasserie and an adventure park a short walk along the lake. On the other side of the river is a 'restaurant de qualité' Le Moulin de Chaudé.

Angles-sur-Anglin (35 mins)

Recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Angles is dominated by a spectacular medieval castle. A photographer and ramblers paradise.

Zoo-Park de Beauval (50 mins)

Ranked amongst the Five Most Beautiful Zoo Parks in the World by Trip Advisor, Beauval has recently bred pandas highly successfully. There are reserves for different animal types, plus a spectacular cable-car.
